*I was gifted this book by Quill and Ink Book Tours , however this has had no sway on my review. All opinions are honest and are my own *
Okay, so, this is my second Kayla Kirby book and once again gripped from the start of the book. IT is only a novella , which means it is quite short and for me that is the only downside to this book. There was quite a lot of character development for such a short book, however I would have liked to delve in to Their pasts a bit more, maybe see things a bit from Richards perspective, get to learn more about Tag and what happened to him.
Kayla has a way of introducing topics in to her books that could be triggering for people or uncomfortable because it isn’t touched on a whole lot but she does it in an empathetic way. It is hard to describe unless you read her work.. Once you do it will click and you will get what I mean.
James is a great main character, so complex. Clearly has a lot going on inside that he hasn’t dealt with. I definitely felt a bit of his anxiety and fear throughout and again you will understand what I mean by that when you read this for yourselves. I don’t want to give too much away but if you would like to find out what kind of author Kayla is before going in for a full length novel then I recommend this novella.
Now on to a bit about the author…
Kayla Kirby was born and raised in Washington State, a place she has never really considered home. She dreams of traveling someday with her family to see new sights and discover the secrets of the world. She began writing when she was a young child and started with writing Harry Potter fanfiction.
Kayla met her now-husband in High School through a debate about the similarities of Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. Their romance started nearly two years after meeting and the pair eloped shortly after. Kayla packed up her life in Washington and moved to California with her husband, finding her home under the warm sun and close to the water fronts. However, a year later, they moved back to Washington where they currently reside, waiting to once again leave the rainy, Evergreen State behind.
When she isn’t writing, Kayla is either spending time with her husband, their young and active toddler, and their family including their dog Kodiak or working on her photography or, on a not-so-rare occasion, having arguments with her fiction characters inside her head.

Overall I really enjoyed My Shadow is My Enemy I would just have enjoyed it more if it had been a little bit longer but that is just a personal preference because I do enjoy a slightly longer book especially if I enjoy books from a specific author.
All in all it was a 4 out of 5 from this Creative Misfit. 🙂
