BOOK REVIEW: When Leaves Fall:A Different Point of View Story by C.A King.

Title: When Leaves Fall: A Different Point of View Story
Author: C.A King
Series Status: Stand Alone
Genre: Thriller, Suspense
Number of Pages: 56 Pages

Ralph wakes up to what others only experience in a nightmare. Chained to a shed, he has no idea where he is, or who his captor is. His memories are blurred at best. As the days press on, he finds himself experiencing a roller coaster of feelings. Hunger, thirst and pain become his only companions. Flashbacks of a happier time are all he has to keep him going. As his situation deteriorates, he finds himself doubting he ever had the very thing he wants most – a family.

When Leaves Fall is a dramatic thriller with a twist. Keep the tissue box close for the ending.

WARNING: May cause extreme sadness

As you can see, at 56 pages in length the book is not long at all. I have to give C.A King credit she definitely knows how to make you feel for the character right off the bat.

I personally didn’t seen the twist coming. I am normally quite good at figuring these things out, maybe it was because the book was so short, or maybe I was having a dumb day but I didn’t expect it.

It is a sad story but it also teaches a lesson I think. It is hard to go in to what that is without giving the storyline away but I did enjoy the book. The only downside is that it is so short. I kind of understand the reasoning behind it but personally I do prefer a longer book.

All in all it is a good story but I wasn’t blown away so I give When leaves fall a 4 out of 5.

BOOK REVIEW: The Choir on Hope Street

The best things in life happen when you least expect them

Nat’s husband has just said the five words no one wants to hear – ‘I don’t love you anymore’.

Picture-perfect Caroline has to welcome her estranged mother into her house after she was forced out of an exclusive nursing home.

Living on the same street these two women couldn’t be more different. Until the local community centre is threatened, galvanising Caroline and the people of Hope Street into action. But when the only way to save the centre is to form a community choir – no one, least of all Nat, expects the results…

This spring, hope is coming!

Okay so to start with. From the get go I liked Nat. The story starts with a bang. The first sentence are those words Nat never wanted to hear from her husband and she doesn’t handle it very well. You could tell she was a good wife and so the mystery begins.. What happened? why did he decided this?

I disliked Caroline and her pompous attitude straight away. You could tell she definitely has a high opinion of herself and comes across as one of those judgmental women you try to avoid at all costs. She is all about appearance and making sure everybody knows how perfect her life is.

When it comes to light that the Community Hall is due to close and Caroline finds out Nat is a famous children’s author and she recruits her to help.  In comes Guy, a mysterious newcomer and from the start it is obvious he is hiding a secret, which makes for some very interesting reading. Who is he? What is he up to ? Why has he turned up now?

Guy offers to conduct the choir and the sign up for the national Choir Competition.

Nat and Caroline reluctantly become quite close in their own way  and you do get to see a more vulnerable side to Caroline . Especially when it comes to her relationship with her mother but there is still something about her that I don’t like. It is hard to put my finger on it.

Annie has a great ability to tell a story and evoke a reaction from her readers and I am looking forward to seeing what she brings out next.

I don’t normally read Chick Lit because it never really appealed to me. I never understood how a book could be interesting without any sort of thriller, horror, crime or fantasy aspect but I really enjoyed this book. It is a different kind of intrigue and excited. What  will Nat do? How will she handle her husband leaving? What was his reason for saying He didn’t love her any more? Will Caroline ever stomp being a pompus stuck up old wench?  What secrets will come out?

The Choir on Hope Street gets a 5 out of 5 from me.

Author bio

Writing has always been an escape for me. I can imagine bizarre new worlds, create entirely new living species and dream up all kinds of odd and absurd scenarios. I love it, and always will do. Its my life. Even now, while preparing for to begin my Masters degree in 21st century literature, I am always searching for fresh inspiration. I live in England, in the city of Lincoln but originally hail from Norwich. If I am not concocting up mad magical ideas, I am usually curled up in bed reading, Modelling or adding to my vintage book collection. The power of the written word is marvellous, and I am continually finding myself learning, and exploring all its shadowy corners. I spend hours and hours combing through texts, books and words and quite frankly, it is exhausting.

I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Be Kind, Be Happy and Stay True To You

BOOK REVIEW: Darling Dark by Natalie Bennett

** Disclaimer: I was provided with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, Please be aware that this is not a sappy romance novel. It has a supernatural element but it also has dark undertones and has sexually explicit scenes**

Title: Darling Dark
Series: Book 1

Author: Natalie Bennett

Genre: Dark, Erotica

*Warning: this books contains a deeply flawed unapologetic alpha male. He’s narcissistic, possessive, and more than a little deranged.*

Trapped in a dark world inhabited by savages and ruled by the corrupted –Duvessa finds herself bound to a tyrant. Day in and day out she bears witness to just how cold and vicious her husband-to-be truly is. His iron fist rule strikes fear in the masses. Reyes is ruthless and volatile –he incites both fear and inexplicable passion among those in his wake. Just as her feelings for the seductively cruel Reyes begin to grow, she learns nothing is as it appears to be. With already so much to fear, could there be something darker, more sinister lying in wait?

I have to hand it to Natalie she definitely knows how to write a gripping story. From the get go you are thrown in to a dark world with supernatural beings. This is not a slow burner. I was hooked from the start.

Duveesa is a young Demi who is captured and claimed by a sadistic Depire (Reyes), King of Purgatory, who’s goal is to claim her as his own and get her to admit that she is his. Her friends Jacinda and Amethyst were captured and claimed by his brothers Hades and Casimir.

It is difficult to say anything without giving too much away about the story. it is fast paced and full of twists and turns. As soon as you think you have figured out what is going on.. boom.. you get hit with a wrecking ball that just throws you totally off course. I found myself wanting Reyes to have a little bit of good in him.. even just a smidge but does he??

Read Darling Dark to find out

At times I did find some of the more intense scenes uncomfortable to read but that is just because it isn’t usually the genre I go for but I found myself getting lost in the story and Duvessa’s Journey and before I knew it 2 hours had passed and I had finished book one in the series.

Even though this is not what I normally read and at times i did find it a bit hard to read I have to give Darling Dark a 5 out of 5. Natalie Bennett is such a talented author and she definitely knows how to keep you glued to your seat.

BOOK REVIEW:The Girl At the Bar by Nicholas Nash

Title: The Girl At The Bar
Series: standalone

Author: Nicholas Nash

Genre: psychological thriller

** Disclaimer: This book was provided by the Author and Quill and Ink Tours in exchange for an honest review**

Rebecca, a brilliant cancer researcher, disappears after a one-night stand with a neurotic man with a questionable past.

Her sudden disappearance in the midst of a high-stakes quest to cure cancer between two rival billionaires sets into motion an inexplicable chain of events as the bodies start to pile up.

No one knows why she disappeared. The race to find answers ensnares everyone around her, one of whom is a deeply disturbed psychopath lurking in the shadows.

Is Rebecca still alive? What happened to her? Who did it? And why? Questions about her vex everyone looking for answers. No one can be trusted and no one is above suspicion…

Well.. well… where do I start..??? The Girl at The Bar is not a book for the faint of heart. It does have some adult themes and as you can imagine some gruesome crime scenes as it is a Psychological Thriller but I could not put this book down.

First off lets talk about the characters.. Ragnar is such a sweetie and you definitely feel for him. He is head over heals from the first time he sees Rebecca and will do anything to find her.. This is insta-love (on his part for sure) but the story doesn’t really play out like a normal  Insta- love romance.

The cops – Timothy – I get the feeling that he is a decent guy and I kinda like him. Roberta – No… just no.. I dislike her so much that I want to reach through the book and slap her round the face a few times!!

Raoul – seems like a loner type. Private investigator , rough ex cop with a soft side.

The other characters that appear throughout the book are definitely shifty and you do start to wonder “who dunnit?”

Nash has a way of allowing you to get to know all the characters whilst still staying on track with the main story , which is finding Rebecca. Is she dead?? is she alive?? who took her??  love the transition between past and present. It definitely gives you a better feel for the characters, the storyline and how they got to that moment where Rebecca went missing.

The list of suspects is endless. Personally, maybe because I have watched so many crime dramas and films in my life I kinda had an idea about who it was but had no reason why it would be them, which really confused me. The way Nash builds suspense, gives you a little bit of a teaser, and then switches it up  will definitely keep you gripped and on the edge of your seats.

Overall, great characters, great storyline, very well written, fast paced, full of suspense and questions throughout. A perfect example of what a Psychological Thriller should be. I would 100% recommend this book.

This misfit gives The Girl at The Bar a 5 out of 5

BOOK REVIEW:Carnal Obsession: His Hearts Prisoner by Reily Garrett

Title: Carnal Obsession
Series: Carnal

Author: Reily Garrett

Genre: erotic romantic suspense

Life on the street molds emotional athletes.

Three years ago, her brother’s death marked the beginning of Kendra’s new life, an existence with no home, no family, and no friends. Time in the underground byways toughened her emotional shell with the loose association of like-minded street rats where survival meant compromise and constant vigilance.
Before he died, Billy had sent her a package in care of his teammate, Conner. For Kendra, re-entrance into polite society comes with a deadly price, as betrayal comes from both sides of the grave.
Conner Crofton owns the BDSM club Ambrosia. After failing to protect his teammate on their last covert mission, penance takes form as a promise to safeguard Billy’s little sister, a girl he’d unknowingly remanded to a world of darkness and uncertainty, deception and psychopathic stalkers.
The past will always haunt us. Each must earn forgiveness and trust as passion, guilt, deception, and betrayal, interweave a destiny formed long ago. A romantic suspense with a twist.

**Disclaimer: Thank you to Quill and Ink Tours and the author for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review**

Okay so this is a first for me when it comes to books I have received from Quill and Ink Tours.

I was stumped with the wording Reily used. I do love a good book but I am not used to reading such eloquent language. This is not to say other writers are worse it is just something that is quite blatantly obvious. At times it did distract from the book as there were words I was not familiar with haha!.. eyy well .. this Yorkshire lass needs to read a dictionary now and then I rekon!!

I think the relationship between the characters works well. They are believable and she is a feisty one haha.

BDSM is a running theme throughout although it is not hard core in your face, full on BDSM. This is not a soft romance so just be aware of this before you start to read.

If you like something a bit different then this is definitely a book for you. Carnal Obsessions is book 4 in the series but it works as a standalone

It was a great book I just felt that something was missing. I am going to be 1005 honest . I think because I have read quite a bit of the same genre recently this may be a book I have to come back to with fresh eyes after switch genres for a while.

I would like to stress this is no reflection on the author. Reily Garrett is a great writer and I did enjoy the book.

For now it is a 3 out of 5 from this misfit

the-endSo guys have you read this? what do you think?

BOOK REVIEW:Love On the Malecon by Aubrey Barr

Title: Love On the Malecon
Series: Love On
Author: Aubrey Parr
Genre: contemporary romance

I hate doing this bit because I am not a robot and will not just give a good review for the sake of it but..

**Disclaimer: All opinions are my own and this ebook was provided by Quill and Ink Tours and Aubrey Parr in exchange for an honest review**the-story

In the heart of downtown Puerto Vallarta, there is a magical oceanfront promenade known as the Malecon.

As a tribute to her father’s life, Nicole James travels to his favorite place on Earth. On the cobblestone streets of charming Puerto Vallarta, she meets Derek, an ex-MMA fighter who invested his winnings into land for luxury hotels. Derek is fabulously wealthy, aging like fine wine, and lives on resorts like an endless vacation. Could her father have orchestrated this chance meeting with Mr. Right from beyond the grave?

Derek Stone never thought a woman would fit into the world he created, until Nicole came along. She’s beautiful, smart, and sexy. More importantly, she has no idea of his money. Derek has taken care of himself for his entire life. He’s not used to trusting anyone. Can he tear down his walls and let Nicole inside?

Well, well, well Mi amor I have to say Aubrey has gone and done it again… well technically not again as this was the first in the series and like an absolute Idiota  I read book 2 before book 1. BUT IN MY DEFENSE I was not aware they followed on with the same characters and you don’t really have to have read 1 before reading 2 because it is a bit like the Carry On films where the same characters are in it but the story is different. ( If you don’t like  Carry on films Aubrey I do apologise if this statement offended you )

I love how Aubrey writes.  She describes everything in detail.. The story is not rushed. You are given the chance to imagine exactly what everything looks like from the characters to the scenery. For me it is important that an author can take time to do this and allow the reader to feel like they are they and can see what the characters see.

Hector for me is such a great addition..to the story and i definitely laughed to myself when it came to him. I could just imagine what he was like.

Derek is a perfect gentleman with a not so perfect upbringing but he is so endearing. Nicole is a little firecracker who has clearly been lacking something in her life. As I said before I am personally skeptical of the whole “insta-love” thing but this book is a sweet love story and is beautifully written

Love on the Malecon gets 4 out of 5 from this misfit

November Wrap up..

I think I have shared more this month than any other time in my life.. I feel like, for some reason it is easy to share and communicate with people via the written word.

Up here in lovely West Yorkshire it has been Freezing!! We had our first hint of snow, which inevitably brought the whole of Huddersfield and Halifax to a complete standstill.

I took a huge leap this moth and decided to share two poems that I wrote.. They started as random thoughts buzzing around my mind but suddenly translated in to free verse poems that I had the urge to share.

Living in the HUD … an original free verse poem

2 against 1….First ever Poem. Free verse…scary times

I also shared some of my art work that has been gathering dust

Feeling Sketchy

AND I shared the first rough sketches of “them”.. who i refer to in my poem

The bold and the beautiful vs Evil

It has become a habit now to come home and write, read and sketch. Lately I am feeling very creative.

I have read two books this month and currently reading my third.. and all so far have been amazing.

BOOK REVIEW: Witch’s Sacrifice by Crissy Mossy

BOOK REVIEW: Future Shock by Elizabeth Briggs

I have also reviewed the lastest sci-fi Netflix series Expanse and tried to engage more readers in a discussion about about banned books.. yay or ney ??

As I have focused on growing my blog this month it is no surprise that my twitter following has jumped from 100 to over 300 in a few weeks, which I am so chuffed about.

And.. I can’t believe I am saying this but I have uploaded my first YouTube video

So many things have happened this month and I have been kept busy.. Who would have thought this was just a hobby haha.

I would love to hear from you guys..
